Since starting my journey into bullet journalling I’ve tried a few different fine liner pens/markers. I’ve tried some from the dollar store that come in multiple colours. When I’m running low on cash and need some new fine liners the dollar store is a good place to head. I have found the Studio brand to be quite reliable and minimal shadowing. However when I’ve got a little extra money and need some new fine liners I usually go for Sakura Pigma Sensei. I bought the pack that comes with many different sizes so that I could try them out to see what I liked best.
I have found that I prefer two different sizes over the other’s. My go to is the 0.4mm as it is the perfect size for the writing that I am doing. When making lines the 0.4 is the perfect thickness and creates smooth lines. There isn’t too much shadowing either. I am someone who doesn’t draw/write on both sides of the paper so shadowing doesn’t bother me anyway. I have been using pen I have for a few months now with quite a bit of use and it is still writing as if it were new. I haven’t had it run out of ink yet so I am unsure of how long it lasts, however I’m happy with the length of use so far. Sometimes I do things that need a thicker tip and that is when I turn to the other size that I like out of the pack. The 1.0mm is perfect for when I need a thicker line or would like to fill something in with the black. This pen provides a very rich colour and I use it quite often. I think I’m going to get a longer use out of this one than the 0.4 but again I haven’t finished either of them so I’m not sure yet.
Overall I would highly recommend the Sakura Pigma Sensei to anyone looking for a fine liner pen. I have used the pen for bullet journalling, zentangle, card making, and just general writing. This pen has seen me through a lot. I believe this is a great pen for both beginners and the more experienced.
Well hello there everyone,
Recently I discovered the world of bullet journalling and I have to say so far I’m loving it. I bought a Leuchtturm1917 and decided I would start in the new year so I have been setting it up for 2018. I didn’t think I would like using something like this for scheduling so I haven’t done weekly spreads but doing a monthly calendar is proving to work for me. Now I know what works for me won’t work for everyone but I am going to talk about what is working for me and what doesn’t.
For starters I have about five different pages per month. I have a title page, the monthly calendar, a list for that month, a habit tracker and a blank page that I will be using for a spending tracker. The title page is just so I know where the month starts (see below for example). The monthly calendar is just that, a simple monthly calendar. The list changes every month so I have a want list, a movies to watch list, birthdays list, ways to save money list and some others. The habit tracker is just so I can track certain things like no junk food, sleep and water as well as stress and other things. I have found that I don’t need anything other than that in my journal as I have a second smaller journal that I use for my mood tracker.
I really enjoy the size of the tracker I have, some people might find it too big as it is rather large. However I find that it’s easier to design with it larger. Although it is difficult to figure out how to transport it if I am not bringing my backpack with me somewhere. That really is the only downside to the journal that I have. Otherwise I would recommend it to anyone who asked me for suggestions. I also only write on one side of each page as the markers can be seen on the other side. This doesn’t bother me at all as I usually only write on one side of paper in everyday life. Honestly it really depends on what you are looking for if this journal will work for you. Now for ideas and where to get them. While there are a few Facebook groups that I am part of where people share their ideas I usually get ideas from Pinterest. There are so many ideas that can be found. I’ve made my own board to make sure I am keeping everything together and for future reference. I haven’t really found any other places where I can find the ideas I want.
When I was first starting out I was nervous, I’m not the greatest artist and I didn’t know if I would enjoy it. If you are wanting to get started and are worried about it I would suggest a few things.
1. Start small. Don’t jump into it too quickly. If you jump into it too quickly you might lose interest fast or might not be able to find what is going to work for you.
2. Do some research. Make sure you are looking into things so you know what is out there that you can do. What works for one person might not work for you.
3. Believe in yourself. While things might get difficult just keep moving forward. Keep in mind that not everything is going to be perfect especially when you just start out but with practice it will get better.
While it might be intimidating at first it is something that can be done. There are so many resources out there and talking to people who also bullet journal is a good place to start. Are you thinking about starting but have some questions? Feel free to drop them below and I will try to give the advice that I can. I’m just a beginner as well but advice from one beginner to another is a good place to start. Enjoy!
